Weather Alert

Posted on Jul 7, 2016

Rough conditions Thursday, Friday A low over the the southwestern Tasman Sea is currently moving east, directing southerly and southwesterly winds along the NSW coast, gradually easing on Friday. On Thursday seas of around 4 metres and swell of 3 metres will affect from Hunter to Eden coasts. By Friday seas will be back to about 2.5 metres for most of the coast but swell of 3 to 4 metres will continue into weekend on entire coast.

Large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.  Check local conditions over the weekend by going to BOM district forecasts at http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml And as part of any fishing trip plans, always tell someone where you are going and when you plan on coming back. If the rock platform is wet ask yourself ‘why is it wet?’ then watch the ocean for waves and swells for at least 20 minutes. Always fish with a friend, wear proper rockfishing footwear, light warm high visibilty clothing, and wear a life jacket in case you get washed in. Stay safe, always watch the local conditions before fishing and never turn your back on the ocean. Malcolm Poole Fishing Safety Officer Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW
