GOBLET RESULTS – September 2017

Posted by on 6:27 pm in fishing reports | Comments Off on GOBLET RESULTS – September 2017

September 2017 GOBLET WEEKEND (Highest point score, no Goblet Fish): The September Goblet weekend brought with it blustery weather with cold biting winds, which made for challenging fishing in all areas. Despite many anglers participating, fishing was difficult and slow with just 8 anglers (3 Ladies/5 Men) having caught a total of 41 fish .   September is mystery month, meaning any fish that is not normally a goblet fish could win with the highest points.  A good use for a variety of fish caught is Fish Chowder, which was JFK's favorite meal, The point scoring fish for the weekend was a Morwong with point score of 116.00 points and measuring 51.5 cm, which was caught by newcomer David Backhouse, RESULTS: Goblet:                 Bruce Kennedy          Sergeant Baker             44.00cm       90,0 points Mens: Outside:                David Backhouse       Morwong                     51.5 cm     116.0   points Lake & Estuary:     John Suthern             Tailor                            36.6 cm       70.0   points Rock & Beach       N/A Ladies: Outside:                 Vickie Ballard             Sergeant Baker            38.0 cm       75.00 points Lake and Estuary    Rachael Kennedy      Bream                           30.0 cm        50.0   points Rock & Beach         Rachael Kennedy      Salmon                         50.0 cm        80.0 points Junior:                     N/A Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new...

July Goblet Competition – Salmon

Posted by on 11:50 am in fishing reports | Comments Off on July Goblet Competition – Salmon

July  2017   The July 2017 Goblet Trophy Competition was Salmon. The competition was held over the weekend of July 7,8,9 and the weather was sunny and calm with daytime temperatures around sixteen degrees, making fishing quite comfortable. The fishing, however, was quite slow and only nine anglers entered fish although  more had taken to the water and were unsuccessful at catching fish. The six anglers consisted of two lady fishers and seven men fishers. Between them, they measured fifty five fish. Although the salmon were running only four Salmon were recorded for the weekend. One new club length record was recorded with  Peter Dugan catching a fifty five centimetre Morwong  breaking the existing record which was held by Mathew Roberts with a Morwong at fifty four point one centimetres. The Mystery fish award was was Tuna it and as no Tuna were caught the prize now has increased its jackpot.   RESULTS:   Goblet:                        Salmon                        Matt Dugan                    65 cm                  80 points                           MENS Outside                                     Peter Dugan                     Morwong                      55 cm                         113.25 points                         Lake and Estuary                Matt Dugan                          Trevally                      44.5 cm                   78.29  points Rock & Beach                       Matt Dugan                          Salmon                        65 cm                       80       points   LADIES Outside                                Janet Sinclair                        Morwong                    48.8cm                      92.60   points Lake and Estuary            Not awarded Rock & Beach                   Not awarded     Junior                                  Not awarded   Turkey Award   This is an award for the most obvious error during the competition. Posted by on 3:57 pm in fishing reports | Comments Off on June Goblet Competition 2017

June 2017 Goblet BREAM   The June Goblet Fishing Competition target species is Bream and the competition was held of the weekend of June 16, 17 and 18. The weather during the weekend was excellent with calm seas, clear water and little wind. This meant that catching fish was hard and it was tough offshore, in the estuary and also off rock and beach. Eight anglers took to the various waters and managed to catch and enter fish, others tried with little success.  Overall there were fifty six fish entered. Those anglers who entered fish comprised of two ladies and six men. The measure-in was held in very calm and warm weather in the downstairs BBQ area of the Tuross Head Country Club with approximately thirty members and guests in attendance. As usual a well prepared and tasty lunch was served and thanks go to the catering team and contributors. The July Goblet competition will be held over the weekend of July 6, 7, 8 and the target species is Salmon so drag out your fighting fish rods and reels and have fun. The May Goblet Competition Results

Posted by on 7:00 pm in fishing reports | Comments Off on The May Goblet Competition Results

May was Snapper month. It was also Mother's Day which may have contributed to a low attendance at the measure-in where only twenty six people attended. Ten Anglers who took to the water submitted forty four fish for judging in the competition. Of these, there were three ladies, six men and one junior. Nine Snapper were caught and so competition for the Goblet species was intense !!! The winners and grinners are announced below. Overall, fishing was very slow and hard work over the goblet weekend. There were members out fishing in each of our three categories, however, estuary fishing proved frustrating with no fish of a legal size photographed and entered or submitted for judging. On that note - photographing of fish. Since we do catch and release many of our fish and also photograph them on the brag mats, can we also get your fishing buddy to take a photo of you holding your fish. Send this photo to the current publicity officer (Mike) at byron@hwy.com.au . The goblet fishing results are submitted to local newsprint and their editors prefer to see people holding fish as against people smiling and holding a prize envelope. Just for interest - A fish first tagged in Tuross Lake by Blake Paul in December twenty fifteen has been recaptured in the same lake. The fish was a Mulloway with  a length of sixty two centimetres and when caught again in January this year it  grown to a length of sixty seven centimetres.  That is four hundred and fourteen days between initial  tagging and the most recent recapture. There is no further information on the most recent angler with this fish. It is hoped all the mothers in the fishing club had a wonderful Mothers Day.   RESULTS: Goblet:                       Janet Sinclair              Snapper                   45.5cm                               64.44 points   MENS Outside                      Peter Dugan               Morwong                 52cm                                  103.25 points Lake and Estuary            There were no fish entered for this category Rock & Beach           Merv Roberts           Blackfish               35cm                                    64.80 points LADIES Outside                      Janet Sinclair              Mowong               50.5cm                                 98.27 points Lake and Estuary          There were no fish entered for this category Rock & Beach           Tammy paul                Salmon              62cm                                      58.57 points   Junior                         Blake Paul                   Tailor              39.5cm                                       49.00 points   Turkey                    Janet Sinclair for accidentally walking into a closed security door and receiving facial injuries. April 2017 Goblet Report.

Posted by on 5:58 pm in fishing reports | Comments Off on April 2017 Goblet Report.

With only two weeks between the March and April goblets and the Easter weekend looming only seven anglers measured-in fish. All were male. No females or juniors had fish to measure-in. The goblet fish was Drummer which is a new fish for the Goblet competitions and a fish that are not commonly sought. Also, due to heavy seas offshore, there were no Outside fish entered. Over the weekend a total of eighteen fish were caught and entered as a fish in the goblet competition and only one of these fish was a Drummer. Results Goblet (Drummer) Tim Kovacs            Drummer                           35.5cm            42.22 points   Mens Outside        No fish in this category were entered Lake and Estuary Ben Alexander                    Bream                   37.0 cm      78.00 points Rock and Beach Bruce  Kennedy                 Bream                   37.2 cm        78.80 points                 Ladies  Outside                                No fish entered Lake and Estuary           No fish entered Rock and Beach              No fish entered Junior                               No fish entered. The mystery fish drawn from the barrel was number twenty nine which was Trevally. There was no Trevally entered so the mystery fish prize jackpots. March Goblet 2017

Posted by on 4:05 pm in fishing reports | Comments Off on March Goblet 2017

The Goblet was Tailor Only five anglers measured in fish. This was probably understandable given a very very busy month which encompassed the Flathead and Bream Tournament (with all its setup, administration, meals and the final pull down) followed closely with a club weekend away at Wallaga Lake.  Wallaga Lake was a wet weekend in which the members fished regardless and quite a few contracted colds as a result. A big thank you from all the attending members to Max Castle and the crew at the wonderful Wallaga Lake tourist park for a great weekend. The measure-in was held on the deck of the Tuross Boatshed and Cafe in nice sunny and warm weather. Approximately twenty members attended. RESULTS Goblet: Tailor             John Suthern              52 cm 74 points MENS Outside                      Rodney Federer          Snapper          44.0 cm 61.11  points Lake and Estuary      John Suthern              Tailor               52.0 cm 74.00  points Rock & Beach           Tim Kovacs                 Salmon            68.5 cm 85.00 points LADIES Outside                      not awarded Lake and Estuary      not awarded Rock & Beach           not awarded Junior             not awarded Turkey……  John Suthern - Poor John. A series of unfortunate incidents befell him over the Wallage weekend. The batteries on his boat went flat and the engine could not be started as a result requiring a tow back the caravan park. His phone suffered water damage and ceased to function. As a result the awarding of the "Turkey of the month" was unanimous. However,  the Mystery fish (no.21) was also won by John Suthern during the course of the march goblet measure-in.Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new...

February Goblet

Posted by on 11:54 am in fishing reports | Comments Off on February Goblet

February is the month where Garfish are most prolific so Garfish was the target (Goblet) species for the month. Over the weekend of February 11 and 12, sixteen angler members competed for either the target species or other species hoping for a club record. The weekend competition was unusually quiet with many members away for various reasons, however, we had five ladies, eleven men with no juniors entering. In total, sixty-four fish were caught, measured, photographed on a measuring mat and mostly released to be caught again another day. This is sustainable competition fishing at its best. The lack of juniors entered was frustrating as our club is keen on teaching fishing to the next generations and having them generally outside and away from the digital screens. Come on kids, its great fun. RESULTS: The Goblet was won by Neil Alexander who caught and kept for dinner, a very nice table sized garfish Goblet: Neil Alexander Garfish 70.50 points 28.1 cm MENS Outside Rod Federer Kingfish 174.43 points 115.5 cm Lake and Estuary Peter Dugan Whiting 86.96 points 40.1 cm Rock & Beach Merv Roberts Blackfish 69.15 points 36 cm Merv also won the Turkey of the month prize, which is an award for doing something that ends up being foolish. In Merv's case it was won because he misread the measure-in time and arrived with a prize-winning fish just as everyone was packing up to go home. LADIES Outside Janet Sinclair Morwong 109.92 points 54cm Lake and Estuary Janet Sinclair Garfish 60.00 points 28cm Rock & Beach There no ladies entering fish for this category. Junior There were no juniors entering fish for this category The next Goblet fishing event will be held over the weekend of March 25/26 and the measure-in will be held at the Tuross Boatshed and Cafe starting at 4.00 pm. The target species is the very feisty and sporting Tailor species.Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new...

January 2017 Goblet Weekend

Posted by on 1:34 pm in fishing reports | Comments Off on January 2017 Goblet Weekend

January is the month where Whiting is the Goblet species. It is also the time of the year when Whiting are most abundant. As usual, Whiting was not the only species that could be entered for the tournament and as a result there were a total of fifty seven fish entered. Of these fifty seven entered fish, there were twenty one Whiting, fourteen Bream, eight Blackfish, eight Dusky Flathead, six Sand Flathead and one  Tailor. Husband and wife team of Neil and Pam Alexander fishing for the goblet fish on the same boat provided a very close contest Pam catching a nice whiting at 42.5 cm and then Neil went one better by landing a 44cm monster which took out the goblet and new club record for Whiting. During the measure-in proceeding the Mystery fish was drawn with number eight coming out and was Flounder. There were no Flounder entered so the prize was not won and will jackpot for the next Goblet weekend which is in February and the goblet species will be Garfish.   RESULTS:   Goblet: Whiting           Neil Alexander                                    44 cm                      103 points   MENS Outside                      Alex Henderson          Sand Flathead 50 cm                     75.95 points     Lake and Estuary      Neil Alexander            Whiting            44 cm                  103 points   Rock & Beach           N/A   LADIES Outside                      Rachael Kennedy      Sand Flathead    37.5cm                   42.16 points   Lake and Estuary      Pam Alexander           Whitting           42.5cm            97.39 points Rock & Beach           N/A       Junior                         Lucas brown               Whitting            39.7cm                    85.22 points Turkey…… Gavin Robinson was awarded the Turkey of the month after being towed to the boat ramp by the Tuross Marine Rescue following an engine start failure whilst on more secluded areas of the lake.
