Flathead & Bream Tournament

Every year our tournament committee think long and hard as to the worthy recipient of our fundraising. We especially look for a group that benefits our own community. Last year we were really pleased to provide a significant donation to Careflight, an organisation that certainly aids our community. This year we have chosen the Moruya Lifesaving Club Special Nipper program. We rely on Moruya Lifesavers during our peak periods to provide coverage for our beaches. We admire their commitment to members of the community that need a little extra attention and patience but who still want to be involved. We respect the organisation that accepts all comers and respects each member's ability. Moruya Surf-lifesaving club is an inclusive and welcoming club, which provides facilities, equipment and volunteers to assist people access the beach who may have Additional Needs or disability. Special Nippers is a beach program run every Saturday in the first term of each year. Our program caters for young people who have Additional Needs, and focuses on each person’s ability. Enjoyment, fun and individual achievement are the focus of the program for everyone involved. Volunteers are integral to the successful running of our Special Nippers program and we welcome our surf club members, and members from other surf clubs, to help facilitate our program. A volunteer in-service and program outline is conducted each season.

Whew! What a great weekend. A huge thank you to all the competitors, loads of good spirit out there, it was great to see. Thanks to all the sponsors, we can't do it without them. The volunteers are packing up and looking forward to a well deserved rest, a big thank you to all involved.

Every March, Tuross Head becomes a hive of activity as our flagship catch and release event, the Flathead & Bream Tournament, takes over the small, coastal fishing village. The town swells and beaches ring with laughter, as family members who choose not to fish the Tournament make the most of the idyllic location. Without doubt, it’s our favourite time of the year! Of course, no tournament ever happens without the support and generosity of sponsors. If you count down the days for the Flathead & Bream Tournament like we do, please show your gratitude to the wonderful businesses—both big and small—who help make this event so successful.
